Applied Entrepreneurship

Matar Venture Lab

The Matar program is an interdisciplinary excellence program aiming to educate and create future leaders who will influence the future shape of the multitude of human activities that are now being transformed by the Internet.

During the program, the students acquire a wide range of knowledge in a variety of subjects: technology, analytics, social sciences , economics, law and ethics and are provided with thorough and comprehensive understanding of the recent years changes in technology, communications and networks.

The MATAR Venture Lab course provides students with the opportunity to acquire knowledge, skills and hands-on experience in starting a startup from scratch. As part of the course, entrepreneurs, investors, and domain experts share their experiences and expertise as guest speakers, to inspire and spark meaningful conversations.

The program is part of the Computer Science School at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

This course is taught as part of the dual program between Tel Aviv University and Columbia University; students spend two years in New York and two years in Tel Aviv, with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Leveraging the key pillars of design thinking - empathy for users, multidisciplinary collaboration and a bias for action – students will learn how companies and product teams can accelerate their path to reaching product market fit, ensuring they are meeting a real market need and designed for success.

The concepts will be taught through a hands-on project taking an idea for a venture and working on it throughout the course of the semester, culminating in a final “pitch” of the idea and solution. Students will work in groups of 4 to work through problem discovery and validation, moving into customer-solution fit and outlining the initial product offering.

For the past few years I have had the opportunity to teach university level courses on
entrepreneurship, design thinking and reaching product market fit.

Bezalel Academy of Art & Design - Course: Advanced Service Design

In this interactive workshop-based course students move beyond the early stages of user-centered design thinking to learn prototyping and testing. Special attention is given to teaching different prototyping methods and how they can be used to validate and further refine products and services. Breaking into small groups, students work directly with early-stage startups, helping the founders elaborate their value proposition, articulate their assumptions and gain valuable feedback before bringing their products and services to market.
